that he had " letter from Recer Baldwin indicating that the Friends

On the other hand I de feel I should write vou quite frankly about
Ur, Walters'? effectiveness in the trial here, It was not only sy own
ovinion but thet of everyone with whon I have spoken that Mr, Walters'
presentation was not only poor but pitifully so, 1 would judge that
his point of view is absolutely tope and that he is a grand person, but
he was cerpletely umeble to mest the essential iseugs; he antagonized
the court and repeatedly failed to answer lecitimate questions asked
by the judge, I am sure thet everyone here, including the Friends who
were at the trial, Ernest Heasigcent of the San Francisce 4.0,1L,U., Yerin
of the Les "ngeles A.?.i.U., and Herthern California Board members,
Will join me in hoping that we try to secure a really hich grade, and
if possible, a prominent astorney for any further heawhngte in eny
ease Hr, Walters does not seem adequate,

are not even involved in this, but in any case I agsweed that you would
want te have a frank statement, and 1 trust you will not think I am
meddling in your plans by writing ss f have. ;
At last I am back in the Service Comittee for full tine work, and
