Reports from many cities indicate |
that there was a regular rush for
travel permits by Japanese who
`wanted to move before the travel
"freezing order' went into effect
Sunday night.
It seems that many, however, mis- |
interpreted the Public Proclamation |
No. 4 and needlessly rushed from
one part of Military Area 1 to
other parts of the same area.
Many persons hurriedly sold their
| business and personal belongings in
| Bay Area cities at great loss in order
to rush to points near Sacramento
or elsewhere still in Military Area.
-The proclamation prohibited tra- |
vel outside of Area 1 and ehange |
of residence within the area is still
permitted by applying at the WCCA |
offices,
Japanese aliens and nisei may
travel to the regular place of em- |
ployment within reasonable dis- |
tance and the five mile limit ap-|
plies only to other travelling.
A general release on these mat-|
ters is expected to be made shortly |
by army authorities in order to|
clear up the situation.
