Dear Kelley:
The bear drawing for the California State Flag arrived yesterday and
has been sent to Mr. Fred W. Links, Asst. Director, State Department of -
Finance, Sacramento. Shortly your portrayal of our State's most note-
worthy mammal should appear in a legislative bill and, we hope, will sub-
sequently be included in the Government Code as the design to be followed
in subsequent manifestations of our flag. Your craftsmanship then will be
exhibited to millions of people in many places from the Governor's office
to the pops of our highest buildings and at the most remote of State Mon-
uments |
All this potential glory should suffice as your compensation, but
Since you, like other artists, have need of sustenance, send your bill to
Mye Links who has assured me that he will pay you in time. The amount
should be fair, somewhere between the extravagant pattern that some legi-
Slators hold in respect to the state budget and the lowly level which some
practical people would ascribe to artists.
I am delighted that you were able to provide a really good portrayal
of the grizzly in time for legislative action during the current session:
at Sacramento.
Sincerely,
9. Stree
