My dear Kelley: :
A long distance phone call from Dr. Storer this morning in-
dicated the possibility of the use of different shades of brown,
made on different sheets, which, when superimposed on the bear, would
make possible a study of the different shades before final decision
could be reached as to the final bear. The suggestion seems a very
logical and scientific one.
The question was also raised as to the possible use of dark.
brown for the grass tufts and for the letters of California Republic.
If dark brown could be used it would save the making of a new screen
by the manufacturers and consequently less expensive to the State.
At a distance could the difference be distinguished between dark
brown and black?
If you can give at once your ideas of the letters of Cal-
ifornia Republic our draftsman could be set to work to make the
drawing for use in the statute -- in outline without color.
, Cordially
